Ozark Mountain Chapter is dedicated to youth eduction and awareness of our patriot ancestors and founding fathers. We strive to highlight these individuals and their contributions to our nation. We work within our community to achieve this goal through a series of educational activities and programs. Additionally, OMC sponsors eleven JROTC and ROTC programs in southwest Missouri. Outstanding Cadets from each unit receive SAR Outstanding Cadet Awards after being chosen by their piers for the honor.
Contests and Recognition Programs for Youth
The Sons of the American Revolution provide opportunities for youth to participate in several local, state, and national competitions designed to deepen their understanding and appreciation of our nation's founding. History Explorers
The History Explorers program was conceived by the Ozark Mountain Chapter in 2016. In partnership with the Springfield Greene County Library, chapter members research and present education programs, with an emphasis on Greene County and Revolutionary era history. These programs are presented free and open to the public. Past programs include:

Enlist as a History Explorer and discover Missouri’s tie to the American Revolution.
Learn about the exploits of Nathanael Greene, hero of the revolution, William Freeman, the only Revolutionary veteran buried in our National Cemetery, and James Barham, one of the longest living patriots of the a Revolution. Understand their lives through stories, dress, food, and drink. Use marriage and cemetery records to follow the migration of Revolutionary War patriots David Bedell, Elisha Headlee and Samuel Steel to Missouri, then trace their descendants to current Greene county residents.
In April 1775, British troops were sent to confiscate Colonial weapons and encountered an untrained and angry militia. The militia defeated 700 British soldiers, and the surprise victory bolstered their confidence for the war ahead. Explore the maneuvers of the British and Colonial armies through the first two battles of the war, the Battles of Lexington and Concord, and learn how the Colonials gained the upper hand.
Follow the inspirational women of the American Revolution and learn about the tumultuous times they endured and their place in forming a new nation.
Used by both Union and Confederate soldiers, discover how the Wire Road — the Interstate 44 of the 1860s — played a vital role in the Civil War as it raged in southwest Missouri.
Founding Father, Revolutionary War soldier, and first Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton was so integral to the building of our nation that George Washington said, "he lay the foundation of a new republic." From his birth in the British West Indies, to the battlefield fighting for freedom and the creation of a country, to his death by duel at the hands of Aaron Burr, discover the man behind the hit Broadway musical.

Other Activities
The Ozark Mountain Chapter is nationally recognized for our community service and for the programs that we establish that are adopted by SAR National. In the last five years we won the SAR National President General’s Award as the Most Active SAR Chapter in America, the SAR National President General’s Robert B. Vance Website Award, the SAR National Colonel Stewart Boone McCarty Jr. Award for support of patriotic education, and many other Missouri SAR awards. OMC hosted the Missouri SAR Annual Meeting and the SAR South Central District Conference.
